The first half of this book was enjoyable then it totally went off the rails with ridiculous, over the top story line. Kyan is a badly scarred vet with survivors guilt—his best friend was killed in combat and he blames himself for following orders and not trying to save him. Ivy is a doctor who, unlike others, documents in his medical record what his true physical limitations are. This throws a monkey wrench into his activities—can’t be insured or get clearance to participate in physically demanding activities. This sets up the conflict and is a good read. Eventually they come to like, respect, and love each other but of course there is a conflict and they split up. This is when it gets crazy! Kyan joins some crazy security company that requires him to have no contact with the outside world, no cell phone, computer etc. Who signs a two yr contract to live like this? It’s a private company not the military! Then Ivy is kidnapped so he escapes from the compound—they beat him up and had put him in a cell for using his cell phone—to go to her rescue. There is much more to the kidnapping but it is equally ridiculous. At one point the head of the security firm actually shoots somebody in the head and kills him but it all just kind of goes away. I get that this is fiction and a romance which sometimes requires a little suspension of belief but really it is supposed to be set in the real world. Very disappointing.
